It really depends where you live. In a city(Manhattan, for instance), people rarely greet each other in an elavator(if they do, it's just a little smile). A lot of times, they don't know who their neighbors are just because people are always moving in and out. In rural areas, people are more open and friendly. I introduce myself if I run into same person more than 2-3 times. As for dining out, dessert and coffee is really optional. Americans are all about choices and personal preference so you can do whatever you like. |
